Shredder is a program
that will allow users to completely erase information of
any kind from their hard drives.
Most people think
when they delete a file and empty their recycling bin, the
information is gone. The fact is, the information has only
been allocated as deleted and the space it resides
is usable. This means the information can still be
retrieved. Shredder eliminates this possibility and destroys
files you delete permanently!
Shredder will allow you
to completely destroy any information you no longer wish to have on your
hard drive. Also, by wiping out "index.dat" from Temporary Internet Files,
History, and Cookies, you will remain out of the consumer profilers lists.
In addition, you will be able to wipe out any and all cookies, destroy History
files completely, and even speed up your computer a bit by erasing Temporary
Internet files from your hard drive by the thousands!
You probably own a
paper shredder to shred old Credit Card bills, Credit Card applications
you don't want, junk mail containing private information about yourself,
and for any other documents you don't want falling into the wrong hands.
Isn't the data on your hard drive equally important as physical
information you shred? Of course it is. Probably more important because
electronic information is easier to retrieve.
If you've ever taken
your computer in to have it serviced by a technician, you
probably worry about the technician poking around your hard drive
and snooping through your files. Worry no more, shred your information
before bringing your computer to a tech.
How Does Shredder
Work?
Unlike deleting a
file in Windows Explorer and then emptying the Recycling bin, which only
allocates the space where the file resides as usable, Shredder
uses the original file size as a template, overwrites the exact space where
the file resides 5 times with random overlay encoded data and then deletes
the file. If in the event someone tries to recover the data,
this someone will simply find random nonsense. The shredded
file will prove useless to this someone and leave he/she at a dead end.
Don't be fooled
into thinking files are erased when you delete them. The recovery
possibility always exists unless you actually over write the exact space
with random data.
In addition, Shredder
gives the user the ability to shred tens of thousands of files
with the click of a button. Most shredders simply clean up internet
browser cache files and/or shred a single file at a time. If you've
ever tried shredding a file at a time, you know exactly what we mean.
Setting up a huge list and shredding files by the
thousands is the only way to go. Also, Shredder is very fast and shreds
even very large files quickly!
