Using the Zip Archive Utility
In this section we will be covering the following topics:

The Interface
This section will cover the two sides of the Zip Utility's interface.  The Zip Utility is comprised of two sides, a side for creating zip files, and a side for unzipping files.

The image above displays the zip side of the interface where zip file creation is handled.  You may view your drives by selecting a drive from the "drives" dropdown list, then clicking on the "view drive" button.  A grouped selection of files may be dragged and dropped onto the application, and they will appear in the "Files to be added" list.  We will cover the functionality of this side of the interface later in the tutorials.

The image above displays the Unzip side of the Zip Utility's interface.  This is a very simple design and proves easy to use.  Files are simply opened, then you may either extract selected files, or chose to unzip them all.  If a password is required, it is entered in the "Archive Password" field.  The packed and unpacked sizes are displayed at the bottom.  We will cover this section in greater detail later in the Unzipping tutorial.

  • Type in a new folder name and click "Ok"
  • Next, enter a new zip file name in the "New File Name" field.
  • Then, adjust the "Compression Level" slide bar to the amount of compression you wish to apply to the zip file.  For this tutorial, select 6.
  • After that, click on the to enable password protection.
  • Now enter a password of up to 8 numbers and/or letters in the "Set Password for Archive" field.
  • Everything is now ready and you may click on the button to create and add all the files to the zip file. Depending on how many files you've added to the list, the duration of the zipping process may vary.  The zip process may require a minute or so, be patient.

Unzip Tutorial
The following is a step-by-step tutorial that covers how to quickly and easily unzip a file.  Before using this tutorial, you should run through the Zip Tutorial first.  Some issues discussed here won't make much sense until you have run through the Zip Tutorial first.
  • First, click on the button to open a zip file.
  • Next, use the file selector to locate the file you just created in the Zip Tutorial.
  • Select your file
  • Click the open button on the file selector. You will immediately notice a file list is built, your password for the file is displayed and the packed and unpacked file sizes are displayed.
  • Now you're ready to unzip all the files by clicking the button.  Unzipping files is much faster than zipping, this will be a rapid process.
  • Once the unzipping process has finished, you will be able to find all your unzipped files in the "c:\unzipped files" folder.
  • Now continue on and read through the "Special Notes" section to find out about some of the extra features our zip utility has to offer, as well as it's limitations.

Special Notes
In this section, we will discuss our extra features and limitations of our zip utility.
  • You may use an existing folder as your destination folder as long as you enter the full path.  For example; c:\myfolder\
  • When your file is zipped with a password, our utility includes a special feature which saves an encrypted copy along with the zip file.  This will be automatically decrypted and displayed only when you use the Encryptex Pro v2.0.5 Zip Utility to unzip the file.  Other zip programs will not recognize this password file.  This feature is for your benefit only so you don't forget your passwords.
  • If you open a password protected archive created by another zip utility, ours won't be able to display the password.  You will be required to enter the password manually.  If you try to unzip such a file without the proper password, you will receive and error message.
  • All files unzipped with our zip utility are automatically placed in the folder; "c:\unzipped files".  This way you'll never lose track of what happened to all those files you unzipped.  You always have the option to move them yourself, after they have been unzipped.
  • If you drag and drop folders containing a period, or ".", the folder will not be added to the zip list.  Our search method for folders is based on periods.  We apologize for this limitation.  It is the only known bug in our zip utility and we are working on a patch to fix this.
  • If you only need to zip a single file, the drag and drop feature will not work.  Instead, use the to add your single file to the list.
